Sewing – Little Hanging Fabric Bags – Budget Kitchen Makeover – Part #3

As part of my Budget Kitchen Makeover, I wanted to replace the ugly metal, mesh containers I have hanging from the curtain rod on the back splash part of my main counter.

I’ve looked everywhere for other nice metal ones but didn’t really find anything I really liked.

When Dillon and I were at Walmart  (Yes, I know,  that is starting to be reminiscent of the girl in the American Pie movies talking about band camp lol), I found their fat quarter section and the new idea was born!

There are a lot of steps but if you sew, you know it’s just part of the deal.

Fluffy Sock Kitty

I have to admit that every time I look at this kitty I think of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory and his soft kitty song lol!

Either way, here is another cute sock craft!

Sandie
I started off with just a pair of fluffy socks from the dollar store.

If you look at the picture below,  you can see how I cut the sock to make the body.

I just cut the head out of the other sock, pinned it with right sides together.

Sewed the head and body, leaving an opening on one leg to turn it back to the right side.

Then I stuffed them.

I stitched closed the opening in the leg. (You can see the sad little tail lol)

I Sewed a gathering stitch around the base of the head,  pulled it tight and knotted it.

Next I Sewed the head to the body.

Then all I had to do was sew little buttons on for the eyes and nose and then I used embroidery floss, knotted on either side of the nose, to make whiskers!

Microwave Cheesy Mashed Potatoes

Here is another recipe to avoid heating up your kitchen in summer when you just have to have mashed potatoes lol!  I don’t know about you but mashed potatoes fall under the comfort food category to me. By themselves, with gravy, with cheese, garlic smashed potatoes, doesn’t matter, they are delicious any old way, but I do not want to have be boiling potatoes in the heat of the afternoon to satisfy that craving.  Microwave to the rescue again!

Sock Crafts – “Hobby Horse”

Here is another Sock project that I did today.  I actually started it the day my sewing machine quit on me and was finally able to get back to it today!

It is a pretty easy project and can be made for either boys or girls.  I chose to do one for girls, one because I still had another pair of pink socks from my Sock Monkey project and two, because it meant I could bling it up lol!

This could make a great Christmas or birthday gift for a youngster you know!

3 Ingredient (Microwave) Brown Sugar Fudge

How much better could it get than that?  Fifteen minutes plus chilling time and you have a delicious batch of Brown Sugar Fudge!

I think this will make a great addition to our Christmas Preserves baskets this year and it would make a great gift for anyone, wrapped up in a nice box or tin!

Sock Crafts – Sock Monkey

Last week was supposed to be mostly crafts made with socks… right up and until my sewing machine crapped out on me. Thankfully Kim isn’t using hers right now so she sent it home with me after our outing last Friday.  I can sew again!!!

I haven’t made a sock monkey in years but decided that would be the first “sock craft” that I make.  Hopefully we can find enough ideas to do a “series” of crafts using socks!

Quick & Easy Rice & Veggies Side Dish

Chris loves rice, Dillon hates it lol. I decided to make some rice for Chris last night for dinner but I wanted to do something different than what I would usually make.

I knew I still had some leftover zucchini from the lasagna and I had some tomato and onion.  From that I knew what I was going to make.  And cooking it in the microwave made it a 15 minute side dish, including chopping the veggies!

I hope you enjoy!

Veggie Lasagna

Kim brought a veggie lasagna up to our place a while back for dinner.  I can’t remember if it was for my birthday or for Mother’s Day, but it was delicious.  It was something I hadn’t made myself before.  I always associated veggie lasagna with a frozen one I tried years ago, and it was nasty!  When I tried hers, I realized what I had been missing!

I have been meaning to make one for ages and just finally made it today for dinner.
