Dillon bought me a combination grinder/mincer/pasta maker for Christmas. He knows that I have been wanting to try my hand at making my own sausages for a while and the one he bought for me also does pasta. Since I don’t have any of the actual sausage casing…yet… I decided to try my hand at making fresh pasta!

This is the one he bought for me!
And these are the ingredients I started with. I bought Semolina flour to make it more authentic tasting… at least that was my hope lol!
I mixed the pasta dough in my KitchenAid mixer but kneaded it by hand. I used a plain
Recipe of 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 cup semolina flour, 1 tsp. olive oil, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1 egg.
I kneaded it until it didn’t feel grainy any more.
I placed it in a large baggie and let it sit for about 20 minutes to hopefully make it more pliable, at least that’s what everything I read said to do!
And then came the fun part…. putting it through the pasta maker on the new toy. I will admit, it was a lot harder turning it than I thought it would be. If I were to make pasta on a regular basis I would probably end up with forearms like Popeye!!!
And turning…..
Once it was all through the pasta maker, I cut it to length… for the most part… and hung it on clean clothes hangers because I don’t have a pasta drying rack yet.
I let it dry for about 15 minutes and then took it off the hangers and wrapped it in parchment paper until I was ready to actually cook it.
When it came time to cook it, I just cooked it in boiling water for 10 minutes…
and then topped with my favourite spagetti sauce and put it on the table for the official taste test!
Thankfully it passed the taste test, everyone cleaned their plates!!!
This will give me enough courage to try it again! I found a recipe for a garlic and basic fettuccine that I would like to try next, once the Christmas hangover tiredness is done and over with!
Making my own pasta is something I have not tried yet! PS.. I LOVE that flour canister!
