Pop Bottle Mosquito Trap… Hopefully!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we are having a really bad season for mosquitoes. I swear I got about 10 bites just hanging clothes on the line! 😮

I have been trying anything and everything I’ve ever seen to deal with the issue. Our house and yard have smelled alternating scents of garlic, sage, tea tree oil, coffee… you name it, we’ve tried it.

This little project is another attempt at dealing with them… and if you have an empty 2 L pop bottle laying around it only costs pennies, using things you likely have on hand!

The first thing you need to do is cut the bottle in half, remove the lid and tape the 2 pieces together like in the picture.

Next you are going to mix together 1 cup of warm water with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, whisking until the sugar dissolves.

Pour this mixture into the bottom section of the bottle.

The last step is to add 1/4 tsp. of yeast to the brown sugar/water mixture. Just sprinkled, not stirred.

Now place it outside where mosquitoes frequent, just not close to where you are planning on hanging out and hopefully 🤞 the mosquitoes will go in it rather than buzzing around and biting you or your guests!

I will update after 2 weeks. The mixture is supposed to be changed and the bottle cleaned out every 2 weeks. Fingers crossed!!!

(Baby) Girl’s Bandana Dress

I hope all the fathers out there had a wonderful Father’s Day! We had a nice family BBQ on the BBQ we finally got… well, the kids and I split and got one for Chris for Father’s Day. We had burgers and salads for lunch and I got Chris and Dillon some HUGE steaks to BBQ for dinner… so a good day all around and I got to spend some time with Kim and my grand-baby while the boys did their own thing!

I think I saw this idea originally on Pinterest and it stuck out in my head for awhile. I think it is so cute and not only is it a dress on my granddaughter right now, it can double as a bathing suit cover up and even a little tunic with leggings as she grows. I have already ordered another 2 bandanas in a nice turquoise colour to make her another one!

Homemade “Baked” Chicken Fingers

I got absolutely nothing done yesterday except for grocery shopping so I thought I would repost our favourite chicken fingers recipe!

Who doesn’t love a good feast of chicken fingers and fries?  I can’t think of many people who don’t.  The problem is the deep frying.  I have my air fryer to make the French fries but if I want everything done at the same time for dinner, I had to do something different with the chicken fingers.

Baking seemed like the perfect way to cook them and to hopefully keep the taste as good as if they were fried.  Success!  They were nice and crispy on the outside (thanks to pre-toasting the panko and still nice and moist on the inside!) Everyone loved them!  I served them with some homemade Honey Mustard Sauce and all of the chicken fingers disappeared!

Sewing – Day I Don’t Know lol

I don’t know why, but I have been so busy I haven’t had much chance to play with my sewing machine.

Yesterday I finally found enough time to sit down and do this t-shirt for my son-in-law for Father’s Day.

He is an avid fisherman some this pattern seemed very appropriate.

Today or tomorrow I have one I also want to do for Chris… fingers crossed!

For now, here is the first one!!!

Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Sorry I missed yesterday…. I usually plan ahead better than that but our weekend was very busy, I was still recuperating and I had my out of town Dr’s appointment yesterday… so not a whole lot has been accomplished this week! I did manage to make this bread on Monday thought for lunches and thought I would share the recipe with everyone!

Banana bread is a HUGE favourite in this household… especially with Dillon. I swear he had some kind of banana bread radar lol! He could be anywhere in the house and once he catches a whiff of it baking he is sitting there waiting… offering to take one of the loaves (because we can’t just make one here lol) off my hands…. a WHOLE loaf lol!
