Getting Ready for Craft Sale Season

I’m not sure why, but I always seem to bite off way more than I can chew…no matter what the situation lol! My craft supplies/blanks have been starting to arrive and when I look at it I think Holy Crapadoodle, am I going to be able to get all of that done… as well as Christmas?? That is why I am starting early. Not as early as I had planned but I am getting used to my brain injury taking over and messing up my plans!

I think I am only going to do 2 Craft sales this year…. the one my mother-in-law has every year with everything Cat themed, and another one somewhere local. This means not only making Christmas type items, but also cat related.

I picked up 12 white mugs last week to do a bunch of the Cat Themed Mugs I posted a few weeks back. I took the original 4 to my mother-in-law’s last time I was down there and she loved them and that they would sell well with that crowd. Hopefully 12 will be enough… although I could also take orders if need be… they are fairly quick to do.

I have also started to accumulate blank canvases from the dollar store so I can make a bunch of signs.

In one of my auctions, I won a box of wine glasses. I thought they would be great to either put the same designs on as the mugs or maybe some sarcastic cat sayings?

If you notice the brown glass items in that bin, I am thinking about cutting some sort of Thanksgiving/Fall design on them and just selling them locally. They are so beautiful that I think anyone would love them for their Fall decorating! Look at how nice they are! I think I paid about $4 for the set!

I got my tote bags the other day so I can embroider on them, some wooden sign blanks that I think would be cool to do custom as Monogram signs? Or even some Christmas sayings?

And some canvas wine bags. I thought I could do one for my brother-in-law who is a wine lover and put some sort of Rx: In case of emergency, pop cork on the bag and related sayings on some stemless wine glasses to make a wine lover basket.

And finally I picked up some round glass cutting boards. I want to cut mirror images to put on the bottom of them so the design isn’t on the cutting side of the board. Again, I can do some cat themed ones as well as day to day.

On top of all of that I have been accumulating tea towels, pillow cases, pot holders and the like to embroider on to add to my craft sale stock!

Wish me luck lol…. hopefully I can get it all done… and on time!

Wedding Gift Basket – Part #3 – Mr. & Mrs. Towels

When I decided what I was going to make for this basket I thought it would be nice to follow through with the “Mr. & Mrs.” theme. I checked out my usual go to sites for embroidery patterns and came across one I liked in a “Wedding” themed package and that is what I used.

I found my pattern on a site called Designs by Juju and I think it worked out great! The pattern for the Mr. & Mrs. can be found here – Mr. & Mrs. Word Art. On top of this set, I think I have about 20+ of their other sets/packages thinking ahead to Christmas and other occasions!

I did the embroidery on some flour sack cloth towels I bought from amazon a while back and they stitched up really nice!

Here are the towels I included in the basket:

Baby Girl “Nerd” Dress

A week or two ago I decided to buy an embroidery pattern to make my granddaughter a little nerd dress.

I found a cute baby “Wonder Woman” pattern on Etsy and I still had enough Marvel fabric to make a skirt for the dress. I found a free download pattern for a dress bodice, and used a big rectangle for the skirt.

And the Baby “Nerd” dress was born lol….

Here is the bodice pattern I found online.

I cut the bodice out of some white broadcloth and then embroidered the Wonder Woman pattern on the the front.

I sewed the bodice front and lining at the shoulder seams on both.

And then sewed the front to the back leaving the back open so I could add a tie closure, right sides together and clipped the curves before turning it right side out.

Next I pressed the seams flat and pinned around the neckline so I could top stitch it.

Now it was time for the tie closure.

I used a nice piece of blue ribbon. I pinned the back opening with right sides together with the ribbon pinned where I wanted it, sewed the seam, then pressed it before turning it right side out.

Next I hemmed the Marvel fabric and sewed it together to form a “tube.”

I ran a row of stitches (on the setting with the longest stitch length) all the way around on the top of the skirt to gather it.

I pressed the bodice bottom under about a half inch and then pinned the skirt in place to only the front of the bodice, not the lining.

Once the skirt was sewn on I pinned the lining to the skirt to cover the seam and hand stitched it in place.

And now my granddaughter is all ready for the next free Comic Book day in occasion appropriate outfit lol!

(It didn’t matter how I hung the dress the bottom looked crooked even though it really wasn’t… maybe just because of the gathers)

Canada Day Project 2019 #1

Here is the first of my 2 Canada day projects for this year. Today I had the opportunity to spend pretty much the whole day at my sewing machine which was awesome. Not only did I get a good start on a couple of projects but the basement is SO much cooler when the weather gets hot lol!

This is a T-shirt that I made for Chris. He is big into “Canadiana,” and skulls so this seemed like the perfect project to make for him and for me to play!

I found the pattern on Etsy. They have a great selection of machine embroidery patterns. I could literally spend the whole day just looking at them and adding them to my favourites!

This one I found here – https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/701696834/canadian-flag-skull-machine-embroidery?ref=yr_purchases – at a store called KHCraftsStudio.

I didn’t have any of the burgundy thread colour called for in the pattern so I ended up substituting a reddish brown colour. Not too bad I don’t think. I will say though that any mistakes are all me lol, not the pattern. (I ran out of bobbin thread once and had a tension issue another time 😦 )

(Baby) Girl’s Bandana Dress

I hope all the fathers out there had a wonderful Father’s Day! We had a nice family BBQ on the BBQ we finally got… well, the kids and I split and got one for Chris for Father’s Day. We had burgers and salads for lunch and I got Chris and Dillon some HUGE steaks to BBQ for dinner… so a good day all around and I got to spend some time with Kim and my grand-baby while the boys did their own thing!

I think I saw this idea originally on Pinterest and it stuck out in my head for awhile. I think it is so cute and not only is it a dress on my granddaughter right now, it can double as a bathing suit cover up and even a little tunic with leggings as she grows. I have already ordered another 2 bandanas in a nice turquoise colour to make her another one!

Sewing – Day I Don’t Know lol

I don’t know why, but I have been so busy I haven’t had much chance to play with my sewing machine.

Yesterday I finally found enough time to sit down and do this t-shirt for my son-in-law for Father’s Day.

He is an avid fisherman some this pattern seemed very appropriate.

Today or tomorrow I have one I also want to do for Chris… fingers crossed!

For now, here is the first one!!!

Fabric Clothespins Bag

I bought one of those hanging clothespins bags from the dollar store years ago. I am really surprised it has lasted as long as it did. When I was hanging clothes on the line last week I noticed that every time I put a clothespin back in the bag I could hear a little clunk noise…. I had a big hole in the bag and my clothespins were falling out into one of my gardens!!!

At first I was going to just buy another one seeing the last one lasted as long as it did but then decided I would just make one.

I used the old one as a pattern from the new one but you could just as easy make your own pattern. It is after all only rectangles with a circle on one to put the clothespins in and a small hanger to actually hang it. But I took the easy route and just used the old one.
