My Very Special Christmas Gift

Today is the Day I get my special Christmas gift from Chris!!!! I am very excited.

As many of you may know, if you have been reading our posts for awhile, we lost one of our dogs… Kita…. a year ago September. It was very difficult for us and we have been a long time getting over her.

We have talked for the last little while about getting another dog/puppy as a playmate for Leroy, the dog we still have because we think he is very lonely without his playmate but for the longest time couldn’t get past feeling like we would be “replacing” Kita if we got another dog. I know to anyone who doesn’t own pets it might sound silly, but pets are part of your family and it takes time to get over losing one of your family members.

This week I saw a puppy that immediately tugged at my heartstrings and as soon as I saw her, not only did I want her to join our family, her name jumped into my head lol. She will be joining our crazy ass family on Tuesday!!!

Everyone meet little Miss Lucy! On Tuesday she will be joining the Logan Funny Farm and making it her new permanent residence! Not the best pictures but all I have for right now! They still show all of her puppy cuteness though lol!

Lucy is 3/4 Black Lab and 1/4 Maremma. As you can see she is mostly black but with white spots…. one of which is on her chest, which to me looks like little angel wings or a butterfly. Maybe that is what spoke to me lol. I don’t know what it was but she is to become a member of our family today!

If I disappear for a day or two, you know it’s just because I am either inundated trying to finish getting ready for Christmas or inundated with puppy kisses or training lol!

JOY Sign – Do Over Project – Cricut Project

This is a project I actually started last year. I had some wood cut offs from another project and I thought I could make a little hanging Christmas sign with them. I got as far as base painting them and then starting to paint the word JOY spread over the three pieces of wood lol.. and that was it!

OLD PROJECT
NEW PROJECT

Insert new colour scheme in house and new colour scheme for Christmas decorations this year and my unfinished project lol… that meant that these might as well get an overhaul/do over as well!

I started out by base painting them a completely different colour than before… a shade of gray to blend with everything else…. quite a few coats actually.

My next step was deciding do I paint or not…. Not…. too many things to get done lol… I went to my handy and very talented Cricut to finish this project.

I picked a font and cut out the letters for the word JOY.

I adhered them to the now base painted and ready wood pieces.

And then I commandeered Chris’ big staple gun to attach wide ribbon to the backs of each piece of wood to hang them by… hopefully fairly evenly.

I used a key ring ring at the top for hanging and made a nice big bow at the top and now I have a really cute JOY sign to hang on the closet door for the holiday season and finished a project I started last year! Yay me lol!!!

Tips for a Stress-less Christmas

I started thinking this morning how stressed I was already making myself and thought that even though it isn’t even December 1st, I should heed my own advice from last year’s post AND to share it with anyone else who is also suffering from early onset Christmas stress!

Sandie

Well, it’s officially the 1st of December, one of the most stressful months in the calendar for me, and I am sure a lot of other people.

My family will tell you that I am the last person who should be giving out this advice lol. One of our least favourite Christmas traditions is “Mom’s Christmas Breakdown(s)!” Not a Christmas goes by without at least one no matter how ahead of the game I think I am, especially since my accident.  This week I dealt with the first one 😕! I let myself get so overwhelmed by what I want and need to do for Christmas that my brain starts to spin our of control. I need to learn that just because I am a mom and future grandma that I am not omnipotent and cannot possibly do everything alone or even everything I decide I should make for everyone.

Christmas is supposed to be a “magical” family time and I have to stop trying to be the magic behind the curtain making everything happen perfectly!

Christmas Stocking

Since I have a new granddaughter I wanted to make her a stocking like the rest of us have.  It has a nice Christmas print for the outside and is lined with fleece.  This method of making stockings is actually quite simple and only took me about a half hour…. not including the time it took to hand stitch the space closed I left for turning.

Using this method you can make your own Christmas stocking in whatever size you want!
