Craft Room Update

Yes, it has been a while. I haven’t had a chance to do anything in the craft room for ages…. until this past week… and I’ve done a lot since then. (Which is why my posts have been a bit sporadic)

I totally reorganized everything! I had a very ugly plastic drawer storage chest that I was tired of looking at. So… I cleaned out the drawers and recycled it! I used the frame in what we call the “pipe shelf, ” and put the small plastic bins in to make them more accessible (I had them stacked which meant every time I wanted anything I had to remove the whole stack).

I hung the curtains I bought to cover that shelf so I could see how I have to hem them.

I was looking at “task” chairs for at the sewing table (that I am going to start refinishing tomorrow) until Dillon of all people suggested I just get a chair cover! I found one on Amazon for under $15! The cheapest task chair I found was around $55, so a big savings! I topped it with a dollar store chair pad.

I hung up a wire rack, my washi tape dispenser and a cute, small item store above the dresser and change table I refinished earlier.

And I finally hung the awesome barn door chalkboard Chris got me for Christmas last year 😳. (I am thinking about painting the electric fireplace in some funky colour and leaving it in there for cooler days.

I put up a little shelf, hung my framed storage board and hung a really cute key/door trim thing I found when I was out somewhere… it’s perfect for hanging the new sewing scissors I got for Christmas! And I finally started putting my thread on the wire rack my mother-in-law gave me years ago!

I ordered some nice fabric to make a pretty sewing machine cover as well. I can’t take the chance of one of our cats getting into the thread lol. (Don’t mind the pile of recycling I forgot to move before I took the picture)

And I reorganized behind the door somewhat. I have some of my granddaughter’s stuff I like to keep there, as well as my wood for future projects.

I bought these really pretty wall stickers for after it’s all painted too!

And Friday I bought the paint!!!!! I went in with a colour swatch but when I went to the counter to have it mixed I saw a really close colour for half the price in the Oops bin and ended up buying that!

That means I’m getting close to it being done and being able to actually use it! I am so excited for that day to arrive! To finally have our pretty craft room ready to use!

I’m going to save showing the paint colour until it’s all done… for our big reveal… which will hopefully be in a few weeks!

Crystal Lamp – Repurposed

Quite a while back I bought a pretty lamp through one of the auction sites I like to frequent for about $2.00. I knew I wanted to put it in the craft room but I hadn’t really decided if I was going to leave it as is, or “embellish” it lol.

I’m sure you can guess which direction I went in!

Because it was an old lamp, Chris rewired it for me before I got started. Thank you Chris lol!

I had some really nice beaded pearl “ribbon” that I thought would be perfect for the lamp, along with some off white lace, pink ribbon, a new lamp shade and my dreaded glue gun!

I started by glueing strips of the beaded pearl ribbon around each of the metal bands on the lamp.

Then I moved on to the lamp shade.

The lace I had turned out to be the perfect width for the lamp shade!

I glued it around the top of the shade, starting and stopping at the seam at the back of the shade.

Then glued a longer strip of the beaded pearl ribbon around the top, covering the edge of the lace and again starting and stopping at the seam at the back.

I put the shade back on the lamp so I could make sure it was centred before glueing a small pink bow near the top of the shade.

And this is my girly repurposed lamp for the craft room!!!

It’s Craft Room time!!!

Sorry we have been absent for a few days.  I am claiming a Christmas hangover.  I have done pretty much nothing but what was absolutely required and a lot of napping but I think it’s go time again!

The other day I started to clean out the craft room.  Over the past few months it’s served more as the Christmas and wrapping room and it was a huge mess!

You can see the huge bag of pretty much recycling in one of the pictures!

I am going to start by painting the furniture.  Most of it will be done with a chalk paint finish.  I bought this colour of chalk paint from Amazon a while back.  I’m going to use it on this dresser.

For the sewing table I think we are going to go with this one. I have the sewing machine set up so it can be used but had to put a cardboard box over it until I make a cover to keep the cats out of It!

We have decided to switch from the queen size bed to a futon.  We got one with wooden arms so I think I will paint it the same as the dresser.
I have this octagonal end table I was going to make into a cat bed/table but there’s a possibility it may be painted and used in the nursery instead.

And there’s this dresser:( I’m not sure if it’s worth trying to rescue.  It was Dillons when he was a baby!

There is a lot of work to do but I’m happy it’s finally time to get going on it !

Freezer Paper Transfer  – Part #2  – My Fail

I almost didn’t post this just because it was a fail but then I remembered Kim and I said at the start of our blogging adventure that we wouldn’t just post the “wins.” We decided that whatever we decided to try,  good outcome or not, we would still share it. I think this is my 2nd or 3rd now 😕!

I had great beginner’s luck doing my freezer paper jars,  so I was very confused as to why the canvases I was making did not turn out!

I base painted them with the exact same paint I used on the jars,  and I mean the exact when it comes to the pink, but even the green was the same combination of paints just different colours.

I went through the same steps,  taping freezer paper to the printer paper, mirroring my images so they appeared the correct way, printing them on the same printer, but when I did the actual act of transferring the outcome was decidedly different.

The pink one wasn’t as bad as the green but it is still barely discernable.  I was very disappointed 😕.

This is how they turned out.

The Pink One

Before sealer.

After sealer.  It did brighten it up a little.

The Green One

This one wasn’t even worth sealing, especially considering I even managed to get the background,  raised tree upside-down lol 😳.  I will repaint it,  maybe going even lighter and try it again.  I hope it wasn’t just the texture on the canvas that caused it but I need to know for sure.

When the jars turned out my mind was reeling with possibilities which are in limbo now until I try again.

I will update this post once I’ve tried again!
